Hierarchy: 8/31/23
The Monday after the last Mentorship Program at Wild Wild Westie, I found myself in a car of dancers headed to the airport, including another Champion.
Of course, all I wanted to talk about was that weekend’s Mentorship Program and how I felt it went. After a few minutes of talking their ear off, they asked, “…could I be a mentor?”
So I’ve kicked that question around: Isn’t this whole program about finding ways to contribute to the community and another dancer’s journey outside the usual model of private lessons and workshops? Aren’t we recognizing what a mentor can uniquely bring to the program, irrespective of their position in All-Star’s weird internal hierarchy? And if that’s the case, why not include a willing Champion?
So on the updated application, we included a question with checkboxes for competitive level that wasn’t limited to only Intermediate or All-Star.
And I’m happy to say we already have a Champion stepping up to be a mentor at Boogie
